How it works
The machine, piece by piece: the clock that drives it, the processor, the picture, the sound, tapes and floppies, then everything that plugs into page 3.
- The master clockPhosphoric's master clock: emu_cycle() moves the whole machine one cycle forward, in an order measured on the hardware, without batches or empty calls.
- The 6502 corePhosphoric's 6502 core: micro-sequenced, one bus access per cycle, NMOS dummy accesses, interrupts on the penultimate cycle, 100% on the 65x02 oracle.
- The picture and the ULAThe ULA in Phosphoric: one 6-pixel cell read on every cycle, serial attributes held line by line, raster splits made possible, and the screenshots and videos.
- SoundSound in Phosphoric: an AY-3-8912 clocked at clock/8, integrated output without aliasing, the audio stage read from the schematic, speech synthesis and MIDI.
- Tapes, floppies and save statesStorage in Phosphoric: tapes loaded fast or at signal level, Microdisc and Jasmin with real mechanical timing, the Sedoric format, and .ost save states.
- Page 3 and the expansion cardsPhosphoric's cards: page 3, the peripheral contract, the serial chips and their transports, the Minitel modem, MIDI, the joystick and the printer.
- The LOCIThe LOCI cartridge in Phosphoric: storage, USB, menu, three emulation modes including a real LOCI-USB, and the race against the 6502 in nanoseconds.
- The ULA-NGPhosphoric's ULA-NG: an extended ULA, identical to the original while locked, with palette, copper, sprites, chunky mode, 80 columns and a VDU stream.
